Projects
I deliver on my vision through
engagements in education, business organizations, innovative startups and nature-focused NGOs.

I believe in the power of education to foster new leaders and leadership.
I also support projects that promote a nature-positive economy and impact measurement.
Education
Hoffmann Global Institute for Business and Society at INSEAD
In 2018, my wife Rosalie and I endowed the Hoffmann Institute at INSEAD, my alma mater, to explore issues that lie at the intersection of business and society. Our aim is to equip business leaders and decision makers with tools and frameworks that deliver positive outcomes for business, communities, people and our planet in line with globally agreed sustainability goals. One tangible result of the Hoffmann Institute is that in the new INSEAD MBA curriculum, students learn about sustainability in every core course, as well as their final capstone project.

Enterprise for Society Center
The Enterprise for Society Center (E4S) is a joint initiative of three Lausanne-based higher education institutions: IMD, EPFL and the University of Lausanne. It aims to build bridges between academia, business and civil society in order to tackle the great challenges of our time. My engagement at E4S focuses on advancing the nature agenda. Our first project studies the ecosystem services of wetlands, and particularly their capacity as carbon sinks.

Business
Roche
Roche is a Swiss multinational pharmaceutical company, founded by my great-grandfather Fritz Hoffmann-La Roche in 1896. It remains one of the largest, most impactful, and most environmentally conscious healthcare companies in the world today, specializing in diagnostics and specialized medicine. We are also proud to continue to steer the company as family owners, something I contribute to by representing our family on the Roche board as Vice Chair.
Roche has recently made significant progress its expressing its environmental and societal ambitions. The company aims to halve its ecological footprint by 2030, and address diseases with the highest societal burden. It has also recently inaugurated its new headquarters, one of the most sustainable in the world, and entrenched its sustainability management and governance through the appointment of a chief sustainability officer, and a board committee on ESG.

Innergia
Innergia is an energy startup that develops locally owned and operated green energy installations in towns across Switzerland. Its business model represents much of what the “new nature of business” stands for: it has a cooperative model, where towns and their people own the energy they produce; it promotes local production and employment, creating broad-based prosperity; and its energy comes exclusively from renewable sources. I support this project since 2022.

Systemiq advises and invests in companies, helps shift large-scale capital towards investing in natural capital, and helps bring nature-based innovations to market.

Capitals Coalition
The Capitals Coalition is an organization that aims to redefine value to transform decision making. By 2030 it wants the majority of businesses, financial institutions and governments to include the value of natural capital, social capital and human capital in their decision-making to deliver a fairer, just and more sustainable world. Nature Conservation
Tour du Valat
The Tour du Valat is a research institute for the conservation of Mediterranean wetlands and the species that inhabit them. The organization was founded by my father, Luc Hoffmann, in 1954. It aims to provide concrete responses for key issues by generating knowledge and sharing it with natural site managers and scientists; influencing the effective management of these environments; and informing public policies. I grew up next to the Tour du Valat research center in the Camargue, and continue to support its work today.

Peace Parks Foundation
The Peace Parks Foundation was created in 1997 to facilitate the establishment of peace parks, or transfrontier conservation areas (TFCAs), in southern Africa. Today, the peace parks incorporate over half of the declared conservation estate in the region, which, at over a million square kilometres, rival the combined landmass of France and Spain. I support the Foundation since 2008.
